PPCDL Licence

Documenting the process to obtain a PPCDL Licence:

1) Attend PPCDL course (S$381.50).

I took the course at The Boat Asia. Training is conducted at the same location as the testing grounds.

Complete both the theory and practical lessons to receive the Course Attendance Certificate.

2) Book the theory test via Singapore Polytechnic portal ($21.80)

Remember to bring Course Attendance Certificate on the day of the theory test.

Meanwhile, extract medical report template from the portal.

3) Pass the Eyesight and colour vision test (S$38)

Did mine at a GP clinic near my house. Received Medical Report.

4) Pass theory test.

The passing mark for the PPCDL theory test is 86.7% (>=26 out of 30 questions).

It is a computerised test conducted at SP. Missed by 1, final score 29/30.

Received on the spot - PPCDL Theory test results slip.

5) Book practical test (S$109) and 1 hour refresher courses (S$148.79).

The theory test was valid for only two years. Decided not to wait for my friend and proceeded to book the practical test.

Since it was close to ten months from the practical lessons, I decided to take refresher course one week prior.

I had a good instructor for the refresher course but one hour was too short to complete everything.

Only covered berthing, so I went to book another refresher on the same day before my practical assessment.

6) 1 hour refresher course (S$148.79) and passed the practical assessment.

On hindset, DO NOT book the earliest slot for practical assessment.

I could only do a one hour refresher before my PPCDL practical test and had to wake up very early (5 am+).

Had another instructor for the refresher. Was very lucky to have very good instructors for both refresher sessions.

Covered oral assessment and man-overboard (MOB) drills this time round.

Went over for pre-test briefing at Poly Marina.

Received Signed application for PPCDL form.

Total cost: S$847.88
